Daniel James back on track in a Manchester United shirt

Daniel James has obvious limitations but he’s an incredibly useful player. One we should definitely celebrate.

He’s not a goalscorer or the second coming of David Beckham, like Manchester United fans want from their right winger, but James has attributes that are needed in every successful side because it takes more than eleven players.

Unfortunately for James, this is 2021 and a lot of the FIFA generation aren’t patient and demand you being peak Lionel Messi every week. Anything other than that and you’ll get abuse on social media.

Real Sociedad may have seemed a walk in the park last Thursday, but we shouldn’t forget that they are fifth in La Liga and their heaviest defeat of the season – prior to playing United in Turin – was 2-0 against leaders Atletico Madrid.

James draws a lot of fouls whenever he plays. He tends to get kicked around a lot, but I can only admire how he gets back up and goes again. He’s as quick as lightening and I’ve seen him trouble enough defenders to believe he can be a useful member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad moving forward.

He has been linked with moves to Leeds United and Everton in the past. Two decent sides with world-renowned managers. What can Marcelo Bielsa, Carlo Ancelotti and Solskjaer see that many others can’t? It’s a good question and I wanted to raise it.

There will always be a few fans who lose their mind whenever the manager names his starting eleven. If they disagree with one or more selection the Twitter police are called, however, there’s rarely anything to back up what they’re saying because Solskjaer sees the players every week in training and they don’t.

Some of you were probably wondering where James had gone. Solskjaer suddenly stopped using him in the squad, although the manager explained in a recent interview how hard James has been working behind the scenes. Maybe it was time to take him out of the spotlight. Either way, I expect to see him more often between now and the end of the season. He’s got an eye for a goal at the moment and could start again versus Real Sociedad on Thursday night if you can take a break from CasinoChan Canada.

Deserves a chance

Coming to the conclusion that James is probably the fastest player in the squad, the coaches have seemingly worked harder his end product. You need that to become a top United player but it doesn’t come overnight.

James is getting a taste of football again and you can be sure he’s enjoying it.

Speaking about new signing Amad Diallo, James said: “Amad has come in and, as a young lad, he’s been unbelievable in training. I mean his professionalism [is very good] and he’s settled in straight away, I’d say, do you know what I mean? We see his quality in training, he has unbelievable feet, but we’ve seen he also presses well and wins the ball back, which is exactly what we want.”
