Manchester United’s back-up goalkeeper Dean Henderson is rumoured to be ‘frustrated’ with his lack of playing time under Old Gunnar Solskjaer.
Henderson, 23, joined United’s youth academy all the way back in 2011.
A series of successful loan spells have seen the young Englishman emerge as one of the country’s brightest shot-stoppers.
Arguably Henderson’s most impressive period came during a two-year long loan spell with Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.
During the 2018-19 season, Henderson was tasked with helping the Blades win promotion to the Premier League.
After successfully climbing back to England’s top-flight, Henderson’s stay at Bramall Lane was extended by a further year.
Another hugely impressive campaign in-between the Blades’ sticks prompted the Red Devils’ hierarchy to successfully negotiate a bumper new contract, reported to be worth an eye-watering £120,000-per week (Sky Sports).
However, the initial excitement of Henderson becoming Solskjaer’s number-one has been hampered by the Norwegian’s continued faith in Spanish keeper David De Gea.
Henderson has featured in just three Premier League matches, so far this season which has prompted suggestions the English keeper is growing increasingly more ‘frustrated’ with his lack of playing time.
MEN Sport recently reported that the 23-year-old has expressed his playing time concerns to Solskjaer.
It has also been claimed that West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a potential transfer, with both club’s first-choice goalkeepers rumoured to be heading for the exit.
However, contrary to these reports, Stretty News understands that Henderson’s feelings towards the club are much more positive.
It has been confirmed to us by a close source that Henderson remains content at Old Trafford and has no major concerns.
Although it is widely accepted that Henderson is playing second fiddle to first-choice De Gea, we understand the keeper’s main focus is still to rival the Spaniard for the number-one jersey.
It has been revealed to us that Henderson is willing to see the rest of this season out but accepts next season could hold greater significance on his long-term future.
We understand that should Solskjaer continue to restrict Henderson’s playing-time, only then will the Englishman consider sounding out first-team football; but that is still a long-way from reality.
Another source close to the player has reiterated their belief that United would not have offered Henderson a six-year contract if they did not view him as the long-term successor to De Gea.
With regards to the rumours linking both West Ham and Spurs to a move – We understand neither club are expected to seriously pursue a move.
