Marcus Rashford believes 18-year-old midfielder Hannibal Mejbri could be the next youngster to make the big step up to first team football.
Rashford, Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay are all examples of players who came from United’s academy into the first team. The Frenchman, however, only really became an established first team player at United after returning from Juventus for a then record-breaking transfer fee.
Shola Shoretire is another young player doing really well at the moment and he made the bench on Thursday night when United beat Real Sociedad 4-0 in Turin, with new signing Amad Diallo making his debut in the final 12 minutes.
Shoretire, Diallo and Mejbri were all promoted to train with the first team last week and speaking in a Twitter Q&A on Friday evening, Rashford tipped the young Frenchman as a player on the cusp of getting called into a matchday squad.
Mejbri wasn’t a cheap addition to the academy. He came from AS Monaco for an initial fee of £10m in 2019, as per the Standard.
The second leg against Real Sociedad in the Europa League could be a good opportunity for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give Mejbri minutes in the first team.
