Bent: Lingard has ‘outside chance’ of making England squad for European Championships

Jesse Lingard has an “outside chance” if making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships, according to Darren Bent.

Lingard has 24 England caps but his form for Manchester United led to his exclusion.

This led to his loan move to West Ham and it would be fair to say he’s hit the ground running with the Hammers, scoring a brace on his debut against Aston Villa.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Bent suggested Lingard will have the trust of Southgate: “Lingard is certainly giving himself a chance, it might be an outside chance, of getting back into the England squad.

“When I watch him play, he looks more motivated than ever. It’s like people have been criticising him for so long, he’s lost his way, he’s nowhere near the England squad… he’s come back, West Ham are flying.

“He wants to show people he’s still a good player, he’s still got a lot to offer.

“On current form of No.10s, he’s got to be in the discussion because I hope we finally see an England manager pick players on form rather than reputation.”

Do you think Lingard has a chance at returning to United and being part of Solskjaer’s plans? I think that’s the biggest question right now for Lingard and surely it’s his ultimate objective.
