FA Cup fifth round preview: Manchester United vs West Ham

Manchester United will be looking to book a place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup when they take on West Ham at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a bitterly disappointing 3-3 draw against Everton in the Premier League at Old Trafford whilst the Hammers drew 0-0 with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is widely expected to make changes to his starting eleven to face West Ham with Dean Henderson, Van De Beek and Daniel James all likely to start.

The FA Cup arguably presents Manchester United’s best chance of winning a trophy this season.

Recent set backs in the Premier League has left United trailing Manchester City by five points and there is the tough task of facing Real Sociedad in the Europa League on the horizon.

The FA Cup could be Solskjaer’s best chance of winning some silverware this season and Tuesday night represents the Reds a fantastic opportunity to book themselves a place into the quarter finals.

West Ham have endured a good season thus far and it will be far from easy beating the Hammers, but this is still a game United should be winning.

An early goal from United would go a long way to settling the nerves and if Solskjaer’s side can play to their potential like we know they can, then they should have far too much for their opponents.

The Reds haven’t won a trophy since winning the Europa League back in 2017 and although the FA Cup may not have been top of everyone’s wish list, it would be nice to see United finally win some silverware.

If United can also combine that with finishing in the top four then I feel it would still make this season a successful one for the club.
