Manchester United have reportedly viewed RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano as the ideal partner for Harry Maguire for quite some time now.

Upamecano, 22, joined RB Leipzig in 2017 after making the switch from RB Salzburg in a deal worth just £9m, as per Transfermarkt.

Since making the move to the Bundesliga, the French defender has featured in 134 games during a period which has seen the 22-year-old emerge as one of Europe’s most highly-rated defenders.

Upamecano has a skill set, both technically and physically which is deemed perfect for the modern day centre-back.

The commanding defender is quick, powerful, strong and excellent on the ball, several traits desired among football’s biggest clubs.

With a contractual release clause of just £37m set to activate next summer, it has been widely reported that RB Leipzig are expecting several clubs to be fighting it out for the talented 22-year-old.

According to a recent report from AS, the list of potential suitors looking to secure Upamecano’s signature includes Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Real Madrid and United.

The outlet’s report claims that United’s interest in Upamecano stretches back the furthest with the Red Devils reportedly identifying the Frenchman as the ‘perfect’ partner for captain Maguire.

It is not yet known which club is the leading the charge to sign Upamecano, but hold on to your hats United fans, this one is set to drag on for quite some time yet.
