“We played on our terms” – Solskjaer right to smile after knocking Liverpool out of FA Cup

An entertaining FA Cup tie took place at an empty Old Trafford this evening. The only thing lacking was atmosphere from the stands.

Manchester United defeated Liverpool in an entertaining FA Cup game after goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes booked our place in the fifth-round of the competition.

A sensational winner from Bruno Fernandes saw our talisman prove his influence from the bench after a disappointing display in the league at Anfield last week.

The Reds were able to match Liverpool in every department without their star player, which is not something many would have predicted with fear of being over-reliant on the midfielder.

United had two breaks down the right early on and it was clear that our players were up for the occasion. When Mohamed Salah scored his first after 18 minutes it came as a blow because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was encouraging his players to go toe-to-toe with Liverpool.

This week we were the home side and we played like it. Both teams had phases of the game on top, but ultimately it was United who qualified for the next round.

Getting the result is what matters and that’s what we did, on top of being the better team on the day to see Liverpool crash out of the FA Cup.

Solskjaer was buzzing after the match. All of the players put a shift in, won a tough battle against last season’s Premier League champions, knocking our biggest rivals out of the FA Cup in the process.

The Norwegian told reporters: “We played on our terms. We found a way that we believe in, the players believe in, and we’re getting stronger and stronger.”

Hopefully Marcus Rashford’s knock is nothing serious.

How’s the fifth-round for a false position, Jason McAteer?
