Solskjaer refusing to let Lingard leave as tug-of-war commences

Jesse Lingard and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are in a tug-of-war, according to reports.

The midfielder is “desperate” to find regular first-team football after making just three appearances so far this season, and any hope he had of making Gareth Southgate’s squad for the next European Championships will have diminished.

Solskjaer, on the other hand, is said to be sympathetic to the 28-year-old’s situation but is still keen to keep him around Old Trafford this month as he prepares for a busy second half of the season.

A tug-of-war between the pair is being reported by ESPN.

United have the Premier League to play for — as well as the FA Cup and Europa League, and I reckon Solskjaer wants to make use of Lingard in those Europa League games against Real Sociedad.

Lingard didn’t play poorly against Watford and showed glimpses that he still has something to offer — but when you look at Donny van de Beek not getting games, how on earth is Lingard going to squeeze in ahead of the Netherlands international?
