Paul Pogba’s exemplary stats as he inspires Man Utd to top of Premier League against Burnley

Paul Pogba has inspired Manchester United three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes is the totemic figure that has given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the chance of a most improbable title race this season but the even more influential Pogba rooted that reality on what could prove to be a defining evening at Turf Moor.

Burnley are fierce and relentless but United have fight that was best displayed by their most compatible centre back pairing in Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly.

United seldom looked like losing but needed elevation to go to Anfield as leaders near the halfway stage.

And Pogba, who was diligent in the first-half without thriving in attack, cut loose when Solskjaer needed it most.

The Reds were suddenly dominant as they camped out in Burnley’s final third after the break.

His winning volley, while saveable, illuminated dazzling technique as he fired home from Marcus Rashford’s floated cross.

The Frenchman did not miss a tackle and was almost exemplarily on the ball in a showing defined by dynamism, ability and vigour.

He may finally have his wish to leave granted this summer, but what an asset Paul Pogba can be in building momentum in a title race he has craved since he returned to Old Trafford four years ago.
