Carlton Palmer has criticised Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw for his decision-making during our 2-0 defeat to Man City in the Carabao Cup last week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Championship side Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday night. It was a dull game but a professional performance from the Red Devils.
Shaw has got a lot better since Alex Telles has come in to compete for a place at left-back. The addition has seemingly gave Shaw the kick up the backside he needed, but he’s still the subject of criticism from some.
Jose Mourinho regularly criticised Shaw during his time at United manager.
However, former footballer turned television pundit, Carlton Palmer, has spoken exclusively to Football FanCast after being left unimpressed with Shaw’s display versus City as he looked out of sorts.
“I’ve constantly had a beef with Luke Shaw because he never looks fit to me and he always looks like he’s carrying weight.
“If you look at him as a defender, some of the decisions he makes — he’ll cut across somebody and block somebody, rather than challenge them.
“I can point out numerous times he’s done that in games. He’s a talented boy but I can see why managers like Mourinho would criticise him.”
To Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s credit, Shaw is playing better now than he did under Mourinho.
And that’s what matters.
