Amad Diallo weaknesses explained by ex-coach Denis Cerlini

Manchester United new signing Amad Diallo must bulk up and improve his heading if he’s to become an Old Trafford star, claims his former youth coach Denis Cerlini.

The 18-year-old recently completed his switch from Atalanta to Manchester United.

We are all hoping for football’s next big thing, but the truth behind Diallo’s time at Atalanta this season is that he didn’t play many games. They may have wanted to keep him but he didn’t play enough football matches.

It was the worst kept secret in football last summer that United wanted to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. A deal fell through and United changed tact, agreeing two deals for right-wingers… one for Diallo, another for Facundo Pellistri.

Former youth coach at Boca Barco, Cerlini, warns that Diallo is not the finished article yet.

He told BBC Sport: “Physically, Amad wasn’t the strongest at Boca Barco, and his heading abilities aren’t good.

“He must add a few kilograms of weight in order to survive in the Premier League.”

Cerlini opened up on how Diallo joined Boca Barco, adding: “We didn’t discover Amad, but rather he just came to us. It was a great stroke of luck.

“From the very first moment, it was evident the kid was special. He was very bold and quick, possessed great technique and a strong shot, and executed everything at great speed.

“Amad was popular in the dressing room. He made a lot of friends, learned Italian and seemed to be a very determined guy who knew exactly what he wanted.”

It won’t be for another while until United fans see Diallo in action, unless Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decides to throw him into into the 23s like he did with Facundo Pellistri.

Both new signings will be coming together trying to edge their way into the first team.
