Gary Neville is delighted with Manchester United’s league position as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s enter 2021 with the hope of mounting an improbable title charge.
United are level on points with leaders Liverpool at the top of Premier League and can go top if they avoid defeat in their game in hand away to Burnley next Tuesday.
Victory over Aston Villa on Friday extended United’s unbeaten run in the league to ten games and Neville has admitted he never expected such a resurgence in form over the last six weeks.
But the United great also claims Solskjaer must give a ‘return on trophies’ and the Norwegian can reach his first final as manager with a Manchester derby win this evening.
Solskjaer’s side were defeated at the same stage by Pep Guardiola’s tournament specialists lasts season but the squad has evolved since then.
United managers will ultimately judged on their silverware and tonight represents an excellent opportunity for Solskjaer to continue building momentum at the club.
