Italian giants Inter Milan are reportedly weighing up an audacious January loan proposal which would see Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek and out-of-favour star Christian Eriksen trade places.
Van de Beek, 23, only joined United during the summer but after continuing to struggle for game-time, there has been plenty of speculation that the versatile midfielder’s future may not be at Old Trafford.
Just shy of the half-way mark, United currently sit second in the Premier League, three-points, but with a game in-hand, behind arch-rivals Liverpool with van de Beek starting just twice.
Elsewhere, former Tottenham Hotspur star Eriksen finds himself in a similar position in Italy.
Since joining Antonio Conte’s side 12-months ago, Eriksen has struggled to force his way into his manager’s first-team plans and now looks set to move on once the winter window re-opens on Friday.
According to a recent written report from Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Witness), Inter Milan are keen to see the two players swap places in a six-month loan deal.
The newspaper admit that this unusual deal would be difficult to conclude and therefore refer to it as ‘fantasy football’.
However, despite van de Beek struggling to nail down a first-team role, CDS claim that the Red Devils’ hierarchy do not want to lose their talented Dutch midfielder on a permanent basis.
