Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made plenty of changes to his Manchester United lineup for tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Everton at Goodison Park.
The competition represents a great chance for Solskjaer to claim his first trophy as United manager, and squad depth in his squad has allowed the Norwegian to field a strong side despite resting key players.
Carlo Ancelotti, meanwhile, has named his strongest side in what the Liverpool Echo’s Adam Jones has told us is Everton’s biggest game of the season.
United appear to be lining up in a diamond formation this evening in their bid to reach the semi-finals.
Dean Henderson assumes his place in goal in the Carabao Cup, but he is protected by a new-look defence including Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly.
Tuanzebe comes in for the injured Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Bailly partners captain Harry Maguire in defence with Victor Lindelof earning himself a well deserved rest.
Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes and Nemanja Matic are included in a talented midfield quartet.
Fernandes is likely to be the most advanced supporting a double-pronged attack of Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani.
But we also wouldn’t be surprised to see Pogba drift to the left-flank and Greenwood play on the right-hand side.

9 changes from the Leeds game and we still have a side that could get top 4

To me that looks like a diamond again, which Solskjaer used at Everton pre-lockdown on March 1st. McTominay and Wan-Bissaka ruled out. Slightly odd that Fernandes and Maguire aren't given a rest but shows #mufc and Solskjaer want a trophy. 🏆 @Carabao_Cup

I am ~80% sure it is a diamond though it could easily be a 4-2-3-1 as well.
Nevertheless, I’ve assumed a diamond. We’ll see what happens. pic.twitter.com/KsZhueqgsT

Good team but could’ve given Bruno some rest

either 4231 with VDB and Mason in the wings or a diamond 41212 with Mason and Cavani on top
