Manchester United appear close to completing the signing of talented teenage Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly has implemented a transfer strategy of signing some of the most promising young talents in world football after the deadline day signings of wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo.

And Caicedo, who plays for Independiente del Valle and has earned four appearances at international level for Ecuador, could be the latest starlet to make the switch for Old Trafford.

ESPN broadcaster Christian Martin has tweeted his information on the deal, suggesting a deal is all but done between the two clubs for Caicedo’s transfer:

“Manchester United. The talented Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo (19) comes to the club from Independiente del Valle for £ 4.5M. Kante and Pogba mix. Will follow in the footsteps of the great @anto_v25 [Antonio Valencia].”

Martin describing Caicedo, 19, as a mix between established elite midfielders Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante is exciting for supporters, but we would urge caution for a player who is still inexperienced.

However, The Athletic reported on Wednesday that United have asked former captain Antonio Valencia about Caicedo and his fellow Ecuador native who told them he has ‘real potential.’

Anyhow, the £4.5m fee quoted by Martin, or the £5.4m deal United are working on as reported by the Manchester Evening News, is risk-free and seems efficient business for a player regarded so highly in South America.
