Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele was seen as an alternative option to Jadon Sancho in the summer, but a deal never materialised. It was thought at the time that the Frenchman wanted to fight for his place at Camp Nou but the rumours haven’t gone away.
Dembele has featured prominently this season under Ronald Koeman — playing 11 matches in all competitions while scoring four goals and registering two assists in the process.
Barcelona will be aware of Manchester United’s efforts to sign the World Cup-winner, unless it’s media mumbo jumbo but they will also be mindful of the fact Dembele’s contract expires in 2022.
Mundo Deportivo now explains with a new report that Barça have long been handling the former Borussia Dortmund winger’s renewal (H/t Sport Witness), although the same story relays claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in signing Dembele.
United are apparently ‘positioning themselves’ to sign the attack in January, which would come as a surprise if the player’s desire is to stay at Barcelona for the remainder of the season.
Solskjaer should have Amad Diallo added to his squad in January. The right winger is set to make his first start for Atalanta on Sunday against Udinese.
