Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his Manchester United side to face Southampton at St Mary’s.

Perhaps the main headline is that Anthony Martial has been omitted from the squad entirely.

The French forward started on the left-wing in the Champions League victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in midweek and travelled with the squad for the Southampton fixture this afternoon.

But, as per BBC Sport journalist Shamoon Hafez, Solskjaer has confirmed pre-match that Martial fell ill overnight.

Martial is replaced by Mason Greenwood, who leads the line for the Reds with Marcus Rashford.

Solskjaer also provided an update on Paul Pogba’s ankle injury, suggesting he’ll be ready to play in Wednesday’s game against Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.

“It is improving and hopefully he will be training on grass today or tomorrow, hopefully ready for Wednesday,” he said, as quoted by BBC Sport’s Hafez.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek finally gets his chance to shine with a first Premier League start.

The Dutchman will operate in what appears to be a midfield diamond alongside Fred, Nemanja Matic and Bruno Fernandes.

Alex Telles retains his place at left-back as part of the same back four that secured a comfortable victory in midweek.
