Manchester United could make a surprise transfer return for defender Jonny Evans as he runs down his current contract at Leicester City.
The Northern Ireland international has been a rock at the back for Leicester, and in hindsight United will see it as a take that they let him go in 2015.
According to The Sun, Evans’ name appears on a list of candidates to strengthen in the centre-back position.
Apparently it all a matter of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan being keen on the potential return of Evans if the opportunity should arise.
I think Evans would jump at the opportunity to sign for United but are we really that stuck that we’re targeting a 32-year-old?
United need a new centre-back but someone who will come in and demand his place in the team. Preferably someone with pace to partner Harry Maguire who hasn’t been the perfect signing either.
It’s going to be hard to go out and find the next Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic, but signing a 32-year-old Jonny Evans is not the answer.
