Former Manchester United striker and Old Trafford legend Robin van Persie has taken to his official social media to praise current Red Devils’ marksman, Edinson Cavani.

Van Persie, now retired, famously joined United from domestic rivals Arsenal in 2012 before guiding Sir Alex Ferguson’s Reds to their record breaking 20th league title.

During his three-years at Old Trafford, van Persie wrote his name in United folklore after scoring 58 goals in 105 appearances in all competitions.

If anybody knows what it takes to win with United, it’s the Dutch great and he hasn’t been shy in recognising the recent efforts of his old side’s current striker.

Edinson Cavani, who joined United during the summer has already hit the ground running.

After coming on in place of starter Mason Greenwood during United’s match against Southampton earlier this afternoon, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new number-seven helped guide the Reds to an inspired 3-2 comeback.

Cavani, who only featured for the second 45-minutes set team-mate Bruno Fernandes up before scoring two brilliant headers himself.

After the match, legend van Persie was quick to take to his social media to hail the South American.
