Manchester United tracking young Villarreal winger with €80m release clause

Manchester United are being linked with a move for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukqueze, who also has plenty of interest around Europe.

The 21-year-old Nigerian has impressed since breaking through from Villarreal’s academy back in 2018, and has since scored 13 goals and registered 12 assists in 90 appearances for his team.

According to La Razon (H/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are among a list of clubs chasing Chukqueze — including Real Madrid, Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Wolves.

He is seen as one of the most exciting young attacking players in La Liga and is believed to have an €80m buyout clause, which could alert a number of big clubs. And I can’t imagine the likes of Everton, Leicester or Wolves being able to compete with the bigger clubs when it comes to that sort of money…

So far in 2020/21, Chukqueze has scored just one goal but has three assists in 12 appearance, and the clubs interested will likely keep a close eye on his progress throughout the campaign.

His contract at Villarreal runs until 2023 which means Villarreal are in a strong negotiation position.

This is an exciting but unpolished winger and he may need more time to develop before any club meets his release clause. It could be a big year for Chukqueze so we’ll keep a close eye on what he does in La Liga between now and the end of the season.
