Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong has been speaking about his development whilst with his temporary side Werder Bremen and has named Juan Mata as the team-mate who has helped him most.
Chong, 20, joined United’s youth academy in 2016 when he made the switch from Feyenoord’s under-17s and has since gone on to climb the ranks on his way to becoming a first-team regular.
Having been given his first-team debuts in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA and EFL Cup by current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Chong was given the oppotuntity to continue his development in Germany.
After departing the club earlier this year to join the Bundesliga side on a season-long loan, Chong has experienced an up and down start to the new 2020-21 campaign.
Despite being involved in several goals during Werder Bremen’s pre-season, the youngster has only managed to feature in seven competitive matches so far.
However, after a series of injuries mixed with a isolation period due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it’s hardly surprising Chong has struggled to put a consistent run together.
Speaking to BILD about his development, as quoted via Sports Witness, he said: “I am very much in the here and now, and avoid looking too much into the future.
“I can say that I feel very comfortable here.
“Everyone is very accommodating to me, and I have made friends here. I can’t judge what people expect.
“I’ve been here two and a half months now; I have to learn a new language and get used to the game.”
Chong went onto hail team-mate Mata for his support both on and off the pitch, he said: “Juan Mata was amazing on and off the pitch.
“I can highlight many positively. Everyone helped me a lot. I am still in contact with them, and they often ask me how I am. “
