Rafael van de Vaart is infuriated by the treatment of fellow countryman Donny van de Beek at Manchester United.

Van de Beek arrived as United’s first major signing of the summer from Ajax but has not had the chance to shine like many expected.

He is yet to start a Premier League game for the Reds, instead being forced to settle for regular substitute cameos.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an abundance of midfield options in his imbalanced squad and hasn’t yet found room for the 23-year-old in his strongest side.

Van de Beek’s lack of game time at the start of the season could have been accredited to an adjustment to the English game but he is clearly now being under-utilised by Solskjaer after impressing in every opportunity on the pitch.

And former Dutch international van de Vaart has said he would be unhappy if he was in Van de Beek’s current situation.

“Wait? Patience? Would you like it if you are stuck on the bench?,” he told NOS, as quoted by the Express.

“The players in front of you can’t even kick a marble and he (Solskjaer) still does not put you in the team.

“I would not be happy. I would certainly not be enjoying my football there.

“Look at the player Donny is and how he performs at international level. I would not have it.”

Solskjaer’s apparent reluctance to start Van de Beek is frustrating fans who believe he can be effective in a number of roles.

He scored on international duty for the second time in two matches against Spain in Amsterdam on Wednesday, further evidencing claims he deserves a starting spot at United.

Van de Beek should get his chance against West Brom at Old Trafford after the international break as Solskjaer’s men aim to secure their first home league win of the season.
