Why Alex Telles lasted just 15 minutes on return to Man United training ground

Alex Telles returned to Manchester United’s training ground on Monday – but departed just 15 minutes later.

United’s deadline day signing made an impressive debut against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc de Princes but has since been unavailable for games against Chelsea, RB Leipzig and Arsenal.

After some confusion at the Brazilian full-back’s omission from the squad that faced Chelsea, Solskjaer confirmed after the RB Leipzig victory last Wednesday that Telles had tested positive for coronavirus but was asymptomatic.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Telles’ brief visit to United’s Carrington training complex on Monday morning was to complete a test for COVID-19.

The MEN note that Telles arrived at the training ground at around 9:40am, and left before 10am.

It is mandatory that players are tested before Champions League games to check if they are safe to travel abroad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men take on Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday evening and are expected to fly out on Tuesday ahead of the fixture.

Telles’ test result is not yet known but he should be part of the travelling squad if he no longer has the virus.

Alternatively, the 27-year-old could return to the matchday squad when United face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
