Sergio Romero is reportedly desperate to quit Manchester United after becoming increasingly frustrated the club have not yet sanctioned his transfer.

Romero, 33, has been one of the Premier League’s most reliable deputising goalkeepers since moving to Old Trafford in 2015.

But the return of Dean Henderson after two successful loan spells has dropped the Argentine veteran to third in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s goalkeeping pecking order.

And according to the Sun, Romero endured a hellish transfer window as he failed to secure a move and talks with Everton broke down.

The Sun adds that Romero has asked to be released from his contract by the end of the month and is not even interested in a pay-off estimated at around £1.5m.

It is believed that if United don’t meet Romero’s wishes, he will see out the final months of his contract and sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club in January.

The Sun claim that Romero is eyeing a new challenge of Major League Soccer in America.

It’s disappointing that Romero’s United career is likely to end with some bitterness at the way he has been treated.

Romero has been the consummate professional in his half a decade of service and United should have foreseen his desire for an exit as soon as Henderson returned to challenge David de Gea for the number one spot.
