Brandon Williams has been advised by a Premier League agent to seal a loan exit away from Manchester United.

Williams had a stellar breakthrough 2019/20 season at United having only made his senior debut last September.

The academy graduate was temporarily Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice left back and went on to make 36 appearances in all competitions.

But the Crumpsall-born teenager has since struggled for game time, with his only starts this season coming in Carabao Cup victories over Luton Town and Brighton.

The deadline day arrival of exciting attacking full-back Alex Telles means Williams is likely to be pushed further down Solskjaer’s pecking order, and he has been urged to consider a loan switch.

“Younger lads that didn’t go on loan will force a move,” an unnamed Premier League agent told The Athletic.

“The Carabao Cup is out of the window for the next two months as the rounds have already been played.”

“Brandon Williams doesn’t want to be No 3 left-back at United.

“He would be absolutely mental to not go somewhere like Leeds or Southampton. Or a top-half Championship club.”

Williams may not feature as prominently this season but he could still remain an important part of Solskjaer’s squad.

The exit of Diogo Dalot on loan means he can deputise for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

Wan-Bissaka was considered indispensable last season but he has come under fire for a poor start to the season and right-footed Williams could be the one to provide necessary competition for the 22-year-old.

However, Timothy Fosu-Mensah-Mensah started the opening game against Crystal Palace when Wan-Bissaka was not deemed fit hinting that Solskjaer may prefer the Dutchman as right-back cover.

The international transfer window closed on October 5, meaning a loan transfer to a fellow Premier League club like Leeds or Southampton as suggested by the agent is off the cards.

But the domestic window remains open until October 16 which would allow Williams to join a club in the Football League.

Despite this, we would be surprised to see Williams pursue another club at this stage as he can continue his development under Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
