Manchester United have reportedly taken the first steps in securing an alternative to number-one summer transfer target Jadon Sancho as they make enquiries to Watford about highly-rated winger Ismaila Sarr.

Sarr, 22, joined Watford last summer from Ligue 1 side Rennes in a move which cost the Hornets £27m as per TransferMarkt.

However, after the London club’s final-day relegation to the Championship at the back-end of last season, Sarr has become a name which could be set for a move back to England’s big-time.

Arguably Sarr’s defining moment during the 2019-20 campaign came against United’s arch-rivals Liverpool when the youngster scored two and set another up in his side’s 3-0 thrashing of the eventual champions.

One of those potential suitors is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United who are desperately seeking a possible alternative to number-one target Sancho as a deal with Borussia Dortmund continues to stall.

According to a recent report from Telegraph the Reds have made an enquiry to Watford about the possibility of landing Sarr before the transfer window slams shut next Monday.

The report states that the highly-rated Senegalese international could be available for around £40m as Watford prepare themselves for a late approach for their leading attacker.
