Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s credentials as Manchester United manager have been questioned ever since he took the job on an interim basis 21 months ago.
But the problems that have caused United not to mount a serious title challenge since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement seven years ago run far deeper than the Norwegian.
Solskjaer received plenty of criticism after the humiliating opening Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace last Saturday which acted as another stark reminder of the club’s plight.
But journalist Ollie Holt has refused to lay the blame on Solskjaer, who he insists has done a good job during his time as manager.
Holt instead claims that Solskjaer’s predecessors Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal ‘wrecked the club’ and caused it to move backwards before his arrival.
He adds that he does not understand the ‘snobbery’ directed towards Solskjaer, who guided the Reds to a third place league finish last season.
