Manchester United put three past Championship outfit Luton Town last night without reply as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side secured their place in the Carabao Cup’s Fourth Round.
Last night’s match saw Solskjaer name 10 starting changes with captain Harry Maguire being the only player to keep his place after the Reds’ disastrous 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.
Experienced midfielder Juan Mata opened the scoring from the spot just shy of the break after left-back Brandon Williams went down under a reckless challenge just inside of the Luton Town box.
The game, which was far from a spectacle was sealed late on in the second-half after attacking duo Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood were introduced.
The pair both got on the score sheet with Rashford doubling the Reds’ lead in the 88th minute and Greenwood putting the tie to bed in injury time.
Rashford’s goal had particular significance after he became one of the side’s players to be directly involved in the most goals since the start of the 2019-20 season.
The 22-year-old Englishman’s 31 goal contributions see him top United’s attacking charts alongside strike partner Anthony Martial (also 31) with star-boy Greenwood (22) and Fernandes (21) just behind.
Marcus Rashford has been directly involved in 31 goals since the start of last season [23 goals, 8 assists], no Man Utd player has had a hand in more.
A promising end to the game for #MUFC. 🙌 pic.twitter.com/NYDnjdlf5g
