Jose Mourinho is exploring the possibility of being reunited with Manchester United midfielder Jessie Lingard in the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.
Lingard was a favourite of Mourinho’s during his time in charge at Old Trafford and he is now reportedly keen on bringing the out-of-favour 27-year-old to Tottenham Hotspur.
ESPN report that Mourinho has told Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy that he is keen to sign Lingard and discussions between intermediaries are already underway over a possible transfer.
It is noted that Solskjaer has indicated to Lingard he would like to keep him at Old Trafford this season, but Lingard’s first-team opportunities appear bleak after he was left out of the matchday squad entirely for the humbling opening day defeat to Crystal Palace.
A move to Tottenham could be suitable for both parties this summer, particularly if United can secure a substantial fee for a player who is no longer an integral part of Solskjaer’s future plans.
But reputable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on twitter that Lingard to Spurs is only a possibility if Dele Alli leaves the North London club.
Alli has been linked with an exit in recent weeks and a move could pave the way for Lingard to be reunited with Mourinho.
As per BBC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain have shown an interest in signing Alli before the October 5 transfer deadline.
