REYKJAVIK, ICELAND - SEPTEMBER 05: Raheem Sterling of England celebrates with Mason Greenwood of England after scoring his sides first goal from the penalty spot during the UEFA Nations League group stage match between Iceland and England at Laugardalsvollur National Stadium on September 05, 2020 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Mason Greenwood says it was a massive achievement to male his England debut on Saturday evening.

The teenage forward made the comment in a post-match tweet, after coming on as a 78th-minute substitute for the Three Lions in their 1-0 away win over Iceland in the UEFA Nations League.

Greenwood replaced Harry Kane and the scoreline was still 0-0 at the time. His direct style suited England going forward so it was a good switch by Gareth Southgate, although we are sure Greenwood would have enjoyed more minutes on the pitch.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring late on in the 89th-minute with a penalty.

What a story it would have been had Sterling given Greenwood the penalty. He’d have scored too!

Anyhow, Greenwood took to Twitter after the match to say: “Senior debut, a massive achievement for me and my family the journey continues ❤️ @England”

Greenwood only had a short debut but I would be very surprised if he didn’t make Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2021.
