Former Manchester United player Demetri Mitchell has signed for League One side Blackpool on a two-year contract.

Mitchell spent over 10 years at United’s academy but was released this summer following two loan spells in Scotland with Hearts.

The wing-back made his only senior appearance for the Reds on the final day of the 2016/17 Premier League season, where he impressed coming up against Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.

Mitchell was subsequently selected for Jose Mourinho’s pre-season tour to the United States but never made another competitive appearance in a red shirt.

The 23-year-old suffered a meniscus injury in February 2019 ruling him out for a long period of time and he will be hoping a move to Blackpool can kick start his career.

Mitchell joins the Seasiders after a successful trial period where he featured in games against Blackburn and Everton.

He joins on a two-year deal and Blackpool hold the option to extend the deal a further year.

“I’m excited to be here and looking forward to getting started,” Mitchell told Blackpool’s club website.

“Having spent the past few weeks with the Club during pre-season, I get the sense this is a good Club to be at. There’s a strong togetherness in the squad and you can feel that.

“I’m looking forward to the future here and can’t wait to see what’s to come.”

We wish Demetri the best of luck at his new club.
