Manchester United have been in contact with Gabriel Magalhaes’ agents over a summer move to Old Trafford, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 which has prompted interest from more clubs like Arsenal and Napoli. All clubs mentioned could do with defensive reinforcements ahead of next season.

Arsenal haven’t had a strong defence in years but with the likes of Kieran Tierney at left-back, Mikael Arteta at least has foundations to work with. They can’t go into another season without addressing their defensive problems. As for Napoli, Romano stresses a move for Magalhaes depends on the future of Kalidou Koulibaly.

Romano shared the following information on Thursday morning via Twitter:

While United need additions at the back we are in a much stronger position than Arsenal (look at how the 2019-20 Premier League table finished).

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to shift some of the defensive deadwood in his squad like Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling. Next season there will be an expectation for Axel Tuanzebe to play more games whether the manager goes out and signs a centre-back in the coming weeks.
