Manchester United are expected to keep Hannibal Mejbri in the youth sides next season to continue the youngster’s development.

Mejbri, 17, is exciting people behind the scenes at Old Trafford, shining in the Under 18 and Under 23 sides since his switch from Monaco last summer.

The Frenchman is an all-action midfielder with an abundance of talent, who thrives in the playmaker role.

There had been some suggestions Mejbri would be ready for a loan switch next season to aid his progress by making the step up to first-team football.

Some supporters even believe Mejbri will soon be ready for the first-team but his path appears blocked for now as United are not particularly short of options in midfield.

And Laurie Whitwell from the Athletic notes that Mejbri is likely to be protected within the youth setup again next season as he looks to take his game to the next level.

Mejbri registered three assists in five appearances for Neil Wood’s Under 23 this season, making the step up from the Under 18.

But the teenager does not turn 18 until January and United will be in absolutely no rush to accelerate his route into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad.

Mejbri is one of the most exciting prospects within United’s academy ranks and it’ll be fascinating to monitor his development in the coming years.
