Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly noted how impressed he is by two young players currently at Manchester United.

The former manager, who lifted 13 Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, still has a close relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as per a report.

“He’s [Ferguson] been delighted the way Solskjaer is managing the team and I believe they have spoken a couple of times in the last few weeks,” a source told the Mirror. “He’s especially hearted by the emergence of the younger players like Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood.

“He managed United for an awful long time during good times and bad so he knows it’s not an easy job, particularly when things aren’t going well.

“That’s why he’s pleased at Solskjaer’s progress. He knows Ole is showing the grit and determination needed but also the bravery to make hard decision.”

Earlier this season McTominay showed clear signs of development and has gone from a youth academy graduate to a player we expect to be in the first team for a long time.

Then there’s Greenwood, a kid we are already so proud to call our own. The 18-year-old is having a stunning breakthrough campaign and Daniel James has been unable to wiggle his way back into the starting line-up since Greenwood started consistently scoring when starting games after project restarted kicked in.

It’s easy to imagine Ferguson being happy about the pair and Solskjaer’s work to date. The Norwegian has overcome difficult patches throughout the season and it looks like we could end uf finishing third in the Premier League — behind champions Liverpool and Man City.

The talk this summer will be how United can bridge the gap between them and their rivals, but Solskjaer has come some of the way with his team’s progression and there’s a lot more work needed.
