Manchester United have the chance to pile further pressure on their top four rivals with victory over relegation-battling Aston Villa on Thursday evening.
The Reds travel to Villa Park on the back of a 16-game unbeaten run, with confidence sky-high after Saturday’s 5-2 rout against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Leicester City’s draw against Arsenal on Tuesday means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can move to within one point of fourth place with a fourth consecutive Premier League victory.
United must build on their momentum with a win over Dean Smith’s side, who are languishing in 18th position and without a victory since the restart last month.
And Solskjaer’s men will have the chance to do something no other side has done in Premier League history if they dismiss Villa in similar style to Sheffield United, Brighton and Bournemouth.
As noted by the Manchester Evening News, United could become the first Premier League side ever to win by a margin of 3+ goals in four consecutive games.
With the attacking quintet of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood all likely to start again, there is every chance that the Reds could cut loose again at Villa Park.
But realistically, Solskjaer will only be concerned about earning the three points, with the scoreline futile as long as United can secure victory.
