Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Angel Gomes’ representatives might have had an influence over his decision to leave Manchester United.
Gomes is likely to leave United when his contract expires on Tuesday, after refusing to sign a new contract at the club.
The 19-year-old has been starved of first-team game time this season, earning just three Europa League group stage starts under Solskjaer.
Gomes joined United’s academy aged six and is one of the most talented players to progress through the youth ranks in the last decade.
But the diminutive playmaker, represented by his father, Gil, and brother, Nico, appears to have his sights set on a move away from Old Trafford.
Solskjaer spoke about Gomes during Monday morning’s press conference ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion clash, which Gomes will play no part in.
“You can ask Angel why he’s not signed,” Solskjaer said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“He’s not signed yet, I don’t know what the talks are behind the scenes.
“Angel’s a top kid. Of course there are people around him that advise him to do different things. If he doesn’t sign, all the best to Angel and I’m going to follow his career. If he signs for us, let’s kick on.”
The Independent report that Gomes has decided against a United stay, despite being offered a lucrative contract of over £25,000 per-week.
It is believed even better financial offers have been made elsewhere, with Chelsea one of the clubs leading the chase for his signature.
Hamburg, Valencia and Benfica are also said to have spoken to Gomes’ representatives over a potential move, with the youngster keen on playing regular first-team football at his next club.
