Man United reach agreement with Sheffield United over Dean Henderson

Sheffield United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Manchester United to extend Dean Henderson’s loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old will remain at Bramall Lane until the Premier League reaches it’s conclusion, after his season-long loan spell in South Yorkshire was set to expire on Tuesday.

Henderson has had an outstanding season under Chris Wilder, making 11 clean sheets in 29 appearances in the Blades’ unlikely challenge for the European positions.

He has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the league this season, and was prepared to compete with Jordan Pickford for the England no.1 spot at this summer’s European Championships before the tournament was suspended due to COVID-19.

Many United fans have suggested Henderson should replace David De Gea in between the sticks at Old Trafford, with the Spaniard under pressure after making several uncharacteristic mistakes this season.

But Henderson’s aberration in form since the restart has somewhat diminished the growing belief that he could be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one next season.

For now, the ‘keeper will remain at Sheffield United where he has progressed so well in the last two seasons.

A Sheffield United club statement read:

“Chris Wilder has finalised his squad for the remainder of the current extended Premier League campaign.

“Goalkeeper Dean Henderson will remain at Bramall Lane until the end of the season, after a deal was struck with Manchester United following prolonged discussions between the respective parties in recent weeks.”
