Manchester United are reportedly set to reward two of their most promising young talents with new contracts.
ESPN report that Brandon Williams and Dean Henderson will be offered fresh terms, despite signing long-term deals at the club within the last 12 months.
United have made the decision to improve the current deals as a reflection of the fantastic progress each player has made this season and the importance they hold in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term vision.
Williams, 19, has settled into United’s first-team seamlessly after replacing the injured Luke Shaw. The left-back wasn’t even selected in the pre-season touring party of Australia and the Far East but has made 26 first-team appearances since his League Cup debut against Rochdale in September.
The Crumpsall-born teenager has established himself as an immediate fan-favourite due to his fearless, aggressive nature and will continue to push Shaw for a starting berth.
Henderson, meanwhile, has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season on loan at Sheffield United.
The 23-year-old was fighting for a starting spot for Gareth Southgate’s England side before the postponement of this summer’s European Championships.
It is claimed Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have all shown an interest in Henderson but United are keen to keep the coveted ‘keeper amongst their ranks.
But Henderson’s path into the first-team is not quite straight-forward. There is no doubting the youngster has the potential to be first-choice at Old Trafford but there are no plans to move on David De Gea who is tied down to a long-term contract.
Henderson, who is set to finish the rest of this season at Bramall Lane, may have to be patient and spend another year out on loan before he is ready to make the United number one shirt his own.
