Former Manchester United winger Willie Morgan has reflected on the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager, in 2018.

Morgan signed for United in the summer of 1968 and played on the opposite wing to George Best for a few years. They were a full-back’s nightmare and they used to swap wings to confuse defenders.

My good friend Jimmy Williams, also known as Red Devils Talk, interviews former United players for fanzine Red News and has kindly sent over some quotes from the latest issue for Stretty News to run online.

Here’s what Willie Morgan had to say about Solskjaer in the latest issue of Red News: “Ole is taking on the worst squad in the history of the club. What he did when he first came was a miracle, you couldn’t have written that. The matches we won and he just needs time.

“I think he is the right guy and I think the fans understand that. They are not stupid. The fans understand it’s going to take time and you are going to have to change players. You have got to get rid of players first. That’s the biggest problem. The wages they are on here at Old Trafford are crazy. No-one else would take them. So, it’s just how long it takes. I like the lad and we are all behind him, that’s for sure.”

Another quick thank you to Jimmy and Barney of Red News for these quotes!

Morgan has always been pretty outspoken so we are really looking forward to the launch of his new podcast, The Willie Morgan Show, exclusive to Football CFB. It’s going to be a fortnightly podcast and it launches tomorrow.

Such support for Solskjaer is important and we like how Morgan rallies behind the Norwegian. He’s right on the money about it taking time and we’ll be patience for however long progress is being made.

I spoke about Solskjaer and the work he has done up until now, on the podcast earlier today. Listen below:
