Odion Ighalo may not have played his final game for Manchester United…
On Tuesday afternoon, Stretty News covered the reports that the Nigerian forward was set to leave United and move back to parent club Shanghai Shenhua on May 31 when his contract expired.
As noted by BBC Sport, his Chinese Super League side have been insistent that their player returns as planned ahead of their new season.
But Ighalo has not given up on his Old Trafford dream just yet and still hopes of staying at least until the Premier League reaches its natural conclusion.
Manchester Evening News report that Ighalo has made a plea to Shanghai Shenhua in the hope they will let him finish this season at his boyhood club before eventually returning to China.
It is noted that Ighalo feels this represents his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent the club that he loves so dearly and there is confidence growing in the Nigerian striker’s camp that a loan extension could be struck before Sunday’s contract expiry date.
Ighalo made an immediate impact in his fleeting United career before the coronavirus break and became an immediate fan favourite as he expressed his clear love for the club.
His output was impressive as well, as he netted four goals in eight appearances, offering more than adequate cover for injured talisman Marcus Rashford.
And even with a fully fit Rashford upon football’s return, Ighalo offers a fantastic attacking alternative from the bench and would be a useful asset to have with United still fighting on three fronts in this season’s run-in.
