Shalke winger Rabbi Matondo believes there is plenty more to come from priority Manchester United target Jadon Sancho.
Manchester Evening News report that United view Wales international Matondo as an alternative for Sancho should they miss out on the Borussia Dortmund starlet in the summer transfer window.
Sancho has been in electric form for Dortmund this term, netting 14 goals and contributing 16 goals in the Bundesliga. He is set to feature against Bayern Munich in a top of the table clash at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.
Matondo starred alongside Sancho in the youth teams at Manchester City before both made the brave decision to seek first-team football in Germany.
And Matondo views superstar Sancho as a role model and believes the 20-year-old is only going to get better despite having achieved so much already.
“Jadon is very, very good,” Matondo told the MEN.
“He always has been since I played with him at City and he is showing it right now. I am proud of him, happy for him and he is another role model I look up to.
“What he is doing right now, similar age, he has got the world at his feet he just needs to continue doing what he is doing. I believe he can do very good things in football.
“It is no surprise. Even at City, I even said to my parents ‘this guy is crazy, in terms of football he is just so good’. It doesn’t surprise me that he is doing what he’s doing. I still feel there is more to come from him, which is weird because he’s done so much already but he’s got levels to climb. I wish him the best, even though he’s my rival! I love him as a player and it is just down to him.
Sancho is the perfect solution to United’s problem position on the right-wing and would complete one of the most exciting front threes in world football alongside Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
We think United should remain patient in their chase of the England international rather than signing targeting raw, unproven talent like Matondo who would not be guaranteed to make the step up to the first-team immediately.
Matondo is certainly a player worthy of keeping an eye on in the future, but for now at least, all attention will be on United’s pursuit of Sancho.
