Manchester United are set to recall Joel Pereira from Hearts after the Scottish Premiership decided to curtail the current campaign.
The announcement made on Monday means that Hearts are relegated to the Championship after the final standings were calculated on a points to game basis.
Pereira had endured an awful season at Tynecastle, managing to register just one clean sheet in fourteen starts before being dropped for what turned out to be the final four games of the season.
The 23-year-old is likely to return to Old Trafford and await the decision on the conclusion of the Premier League before making his next move.
Pereira is contracted at United until next summer and the club have an option of extending the deal a further year.
However, it’s difficult to envisage a future for the Portuguese youngster at a club that is hardly short of top goalkeepers.
David De Gea, Dean Henderson and Sergio Romero will all be ahead of him in the pecking order when he returns.
Pereira has spent five seasons on loan during his eight years at United, but could finally be moved on permanently with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more than content with his current options between the sticks.
