Manchester United are reportedly working on a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso this summer.
According to the Daily Express, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is monitoring several midfield targets amid uncertainty over the future of star man Paul Pogba.
And Tolisso, 25, has been identified as a specialist that could provide more competition in the middle of the park next season.
Tolisso played an important role in France’s World Cup triumph in 2018 and made the move to Bayern after four successful at Lyon in 2017.
However, Tolisso has failed to live up to high expectations and has made just seven Bundesliga starts this term.
It is claimed that United tried to sign him on loan in January as they looked to bolster their midfield options, but the German giants weren’t prepared to entertain any offers for a player they had splashed £37 million on.
Bayern now appear ready to let Tolisso leave to help fund other signings with Manchester City winger Leroy Sane high on their list of priorities.
But United need to be cautious in their pursuit of a player that has a wretched history of injury problems.
Tolisso required an operation to repair ankle ligaments last month, and would need to prove his fitness to Old Trafford staff before a decision on a move was made.
There are no doubts that Tolisso is a talented player in possession and he is at the perfect age to thrive in Solskjaer’s rebuild.
But alarm bells should be ringing when Bayern Munich no longer want a player and we all know what happened the last time the Reds signed a player from the German club…
