Manchester United are not happy with David de Gea’s form and are open to the prospect of selling the Spanish goalkeeper, according to football journalist Duncan Castles.
Castles has a close working relationship with De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes, so if you’re trying to work out which side this leak came from, I find it hard to believe he was discuss this on his podcast without consulting the Portuguese agent.
While speaking on The Transfer Window podcast he revealed that United haven’t been convinced by his performances since he signed a new contract in September 2019.
That may raise questions about Dean Henderson, who has impressed on loan at Sheffield United, but the journalist quashed all hopes by claiming that the Red Devils do not view the 23-year-old as an immediate replacement for De Gea.
This we find very strange because United won’t spend money unless they need to. Why on earth would they go out and spend money on Onana when not only Henderson is at the club, but Sergio Romero!
It just doesn’t add up for me but we’ll see if other hacks add to the information Castles has passed on.
He added that United submitted an offer for Ajax keeper Andre Onana last May but no deal materialised. I don’t know why he felt the need to mention this unless he thinks the Red Devils are still interested in the Eredivisie shot stopper?
