Ighalo’s future hits new stumbling block as Shanghai Shenhua play hard ball over loan extension

According to The Times, Shanghai Shenhua will prevent Manchester United’s attempts to extend Odion Ighalo’s loan deal — insisting on a permanent move instead.

Earlier this week Sky Sports claimed the Chinese club want to reward the Nigerian striker with a new two-year extension to his current contract worth more than £400,000-per-week.

The Nigerian striker is on loan at Old Trafford until May 31 but the Premier League won’t be finished by that point if the coronavirus outbreak continues.

As things stand, all English professional football is postponed until at least April 30 and might continue its course on June 1, as reported by The Telegraph.

The Times suggest United will try to extend Ighalo’s loan deal until the end of the season — whenever that may be — but Shenhua are said to be unwilling to accept and are set to demand £15m for the striker’s permanent transfer instead.

We reckon Ighalo wants to stay at United because he hasn’t stopped talking about his move being a lifelong dream.

The Sun claim Ighalo is willing to take a 50% cut on his £300,000-per-week wages in China.

Ighalo’s current deal with Shenhua expires in December 2021, so it’s hardly a surprise that they want to sort his future out now rather than leaving it late.
