Video: The brilliant Odion Ighalo moment you may have missed v Man City

Who would have expected when the season started that Odion Ighalo would be the new cult hero of Old Trafford?

Manchester United fans have taken their Nigerian loan striker to their hearts and already have their own chant for the 30-year-old.

Ighalo was a necessary addition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on deadline day, despite eyebrows being raised across football after his signature.

A former Watford forward who has been playing in China for three seasons, Ighalo has surpassed expectations in his first month in a United shirt.

Ighalo is a natural centre-forward and can provide a focal point to Solskjaer’s attack from the substitutes bench, or starting when the Norwegian is resting Anthony Martial.

He played an important role in holding the ball up for the Reds late on in Sunday’s Manchester derby as City chased an equaliser.

Ighalo replaced Daniel James, who was tiring up front and allowed for some welcome relief for the United defence with a series of impressive touches.

This control from David De Gea was particularly special and a reminder of his genuine quality.
