Ighalo responds to fan claiming he wanted to jump into Stretford End to celebrate derby win

Odion Ighalo joined Manchester United at the end of the January transfer window and expectations were low. A short-term signing to cover Marcus Rashford’s loss with injury, but the Nigerian striker has been an excellent signing, used brilliantly by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a late substitute in the Manchester derby.

Ighalo didn’t score yesterday but he replaced Bruno Fernandes at the end when United needing something different. The Portuguese playmaker has less of an influence on the second half as Man City dominated possession and when they were piling pressure towards the end, we needed someone to hold up play and Ighalo was the man.

He kept the ball and brought other players into the game which saw Solskjaer’s game plan work perfectly at the end.

If Ighalo’s job is to come on at the end of games to carry out such a job, so be it… He scored an important goal in United’s FA Cup win over Derby County during the week.

But as revealed in many reports since his arrival, Ighalo supports Manchester United and that may explain why he wanted to jump into the Stretford End on Sunday.

One fan brought up the observation after Ighalo tweeted a good morning post, which has been done by a few United players this morning after the big win, including captain Harry Maguire.

Scenes.

The atmosphere around Old Trafford is at its best in years! Solskjaer deserves some credit for that and it’s been helped by his two January additions, who genuinely want to be at United which is crucial for team morale.
