Video: Anthony Martial opens up on frustrating time under José Mourinho

Anthony Martial has opened up on his frustrations during José Mourinho’s time as Manchester United manager.

The France international had his game time cut short under Mourinho, and it was clear after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez that the ex-United boss considered him surplus to requirements.

Martial was unable to win the Portuguese tactician over despite showing glimpses of quality when he played. Still, though, there is plenty of frustration surrounding the former AS Monaco attack as he continues to be inconsistent at best and constantly looks stroppy on the pitch.

Watch the video below when Martial opens up and makes it clear he found working with Mourinho difficult.

Speaking to RMC (translated by Caught Offside), the 24-year-old admits Mourinho’s treatment of him made him more determined to prove him wrong. Well, he still has plenty of work to do…

“You definitely want to prove him wrong,” Martial said.

“He didn’t start me during the first few games and each time I came on I scored.

“In the end he told me: ‘You see, now you understand what I wanted’.

“It can get to you. You just want to show him you deserve to be on the pitch.”

Time to start proving yourself under Ole. The team needs goals, goals and more goals!
