Bruno Fernandes to play for Sporting Lisbon as speculation builds over Man Utd transfer

Manchester United are running out of time to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The 25-year-old has again been selected in Sporting’s squad for Monday night’s Primera Liga game against CS Maritimo.

It’s a transfer saga that has consumed United fans this month and we are still left wondering why a deal has not yet been completed.

As reported by the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson on Monday afternoon, United do still retain an interest in the playmaker despite a fee not yet being agreed between the two clubs.

The report suggests the Reds had a £38m bid rejected for the player and are ‘considering’ making a fresh offer.

It is staggering that United are still ‘considering’ an offer for a player that it seems so glaringly obvious that they require this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a midfield and attack completely depleted with injuries and Fernandes is the quality of player that can provide the link between the two in the number 10 or number 8 role.

If United do not sign anyone before Friday’s deadline despite going into the window needing two midfielders and a striker, then Solskjaer has not been given a fair opportunity to succeed and the responsibility for the season rests at the hands of the Glazers and the recruitment team for failing to back their manager.
