Manchester United are desperate for attacking reinforcements in the final days of the transfer window and one player reportedly targeted is Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
Marcus Rashford’s back injury means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left completely bereft of forwards to choose from.
Anthony Martial, who is arguably much better out wide, and Mason Greenwood, an 18-year-old playing in his first full season for the Reds, are left as the Norwegian’s options to play up front.

Reporter James Cooper believes United could try and accelerate a move for Dembele who has been identified as a priority target.
“I think there is a realisation that they can’t get someone in for the short-term because there aren’t many suitable options out there,” Cooper told Sky Sports.
“But what they might try to do, rather than look for that short-term fix, is to try and bring one of their world-class targets for the summer forward to January and that’s why we have seen them sending scouts to watch Dembele.
“Ole has been very noble about making sacrifices and getting rid of (Romelu) Lukaku in the summer, but in hindsight he knows he should have got another body in there. Dembele could now be that man but it won’t be easy to get him.”
Many United fans will be aware of Dembele from his time at Celtic and Fulham. But since his arrival at Lyon in 2018, the 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in France, scoring 36 times in 76 appearances.
Dembele would be an ideal signing for Solskjaer but we highly doubt this is a transfer that can be made this month with just a week until the transfer window shuts.
Meanwhile, in the same report, there is a claim that United are interested in short-term loan deals for Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani.
